Close to 750 million people around the world do not have access to clean water. Heavy metal ions are a major source of pollution for these water bodies. Conventional methods of removing these metal ions are costly and and complex. Our project aims to determine whether peat can serve as a suitable adsorbent for the adsorption of metal ions.

Is peat an effective adsorbent?

Our results show that peat is a suitable adsorbent to adsorb metal ions as it is able to remoe over 90% of the ions. Peat can be used in column filter to remove the metal ions.
